Early Prostate Cancer Detection
There is much controversy about prostate cancer with respect to an optimal strategy for detection. With the advent of a blood test called PSA (prostate specific antigen) we have become very good at finding prostate cancer early. A criticism is that we often find early, non aggressive cancer that does not need to be treated. The challenge is to find and treat men that harbour significant disease and not overtreat other men. In effect we need to separate the notion of diagnosis from treatment. Wht we dont want to do however is simply stop looking for prostate cancer. Read more on my thoughts at BJUI
